
2023-2024 PTO Executive Board Slate:
Co-Presidents- Whitley Levy and Valerie Carville
Whitley is mom to Palmer, a high-functioning autistic (like Asperger’s) junior. She loves our school because her son is seen, accepted and challenged in ways he’s never been at another school. She has served the Energy Institute High School PTO as Parliamentarian, Fundraising Chair and President Elect. She utilized her background in event planning and hospitality in a variety of volunteer positions for other organizations over the past 17 years that she has been out of the workforce. When not volunteering, she enjoys yoga, travel, ceramics and painting.
Valerie is mom to a rising freshman and rising senior at Energy. she has served The Energy PTO as Volunteers Chair for two years and currently as President Elect. For other PTOs she has served as Auction Chair and International Festival Chair, both for two years. Prior to moving to Houston she worked in Marketing and PR and served on the Board of Directors for the YWCA Greater Baton Rouge, including a term as Board President. In her free time she enjoys exercising, reading and travel.
President Elect- Patrick Long
Patrick is a Director in Opportune LLP’s Process & Technology Group. Patrick has over 25 years of experience in providing clients with solutions focused on energy trading risk management, logistical systems, supply chain planning, and optimization. He leads the Logistics and Operations community for Opportune. Prior to joining Opportune, Patrick worked in the energy consulting trading and risk systems practice at Accenture. In his free time, Patrick writes thought leadership articles about a multitude of supply chain topics. He loves to travel all over the world with his family and stay in shape by running. Patrick is married to Caroline Long. They have two daughters – Victoria is currently a sophomore at Energy Institute High School and Katia is finishing middle school at the Mandarin Immersion Magnet School.
Treasurer- Tiko Hausman
Tiko serves as Deputy Chief of Operations for Commissioner Adrian Garcia’s office and oversees Precinct2Gether, the precincts nonprofit. Ms. Hausman is a recent graduate of the Center for Houston’s Future Business and Civic Leadership Forum and is an alumnus of Leadership Houston, Class XXXII. Ms. Hausman also servies of the Board for the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce and is Vice President of Membership for the League of Women Voters Houston. Tiko was appointed by the president of HISD to serve as their appointed Board Director on the Downtown Redevelopment Authority, TIRZ3 Board, Position 6, Trustee at Large. Tiko and her husband of 23 years have two amazing children, Zoey and Wynton. Zoey is a freshman at Virginia Commonwealth University in Forensic Science and Psychology, while Wynton is a freshman at Energy. When this proud mom is not volunteering or serving the community, she enjoys dinner parties with friends and traveling with her family.
Secretary- Heather Peterson
Heather has two rising 9th graders, one of whom will attend Energy (Alex Grigoriadis). She is the current PTO President at Lanier MS and past President-Elect at Lanier MS. Her kids attended Roberts Elementary where she served as room parent for both of her kids each year (two different classes each year!), co-chair of Carnival, ran the Lunchroom (daily volunteer schedule) volunteers for 5 years, and chaired 5th grade graduation. Professionally, she has practiced criminal defense law locally for 25 years, and is managing partner of a small firm – Nugent & Peterson for 12 years.
Parliamentarian- Angela Ryden
Angela has two high school children, one of whom is graduating this year from Debakey and will be attending A&M in the fall. Her daughter Lily is a current Sophomore here at Energy, also hoping to attend A&M when she graduates. They are definitely an Aggie family. Angela was an educator in Cy-Fair for 13 years and saw first hand the impact a strong, supportive PTO has on the climate and culture. When she left education, she was very involved in the kids’ school libraries and volunteered weekly. She now runs the office of the family architecture firm. When she’s not working or driving Lily to an activity, Angela can be found reading a fiction book, preferably by Stephen King.
Committee Chairs:
Communications Chair- Michelle Mallinson
Michelle is the mom of Otto, he's a rising senior at Energy. She is an engineer at Chevron and has been in technical roles for over 25 years. This is her first time volunteering on a PTO, serving as the Communications Chair since February of this year. She enjoys being able to use the creative side of her brain in this position, developing catchy graphics, fliers, and emails. This coming school year, she looks forward to migrating the PTO's website to Membership Toolkit and improving communication between Energy's parents, teachers and staff, and school clubs.
Fundraising Co-Chairs- Elisabeth Yoder and Margarita Moreno
Elisabeth has an incoming freshman, Oliver, and a 5th grader, Graham. She is the Director of Advancement at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School. She manages fundraising efforts and assists with communication for current parents and marketing for prospective parents. She and her husband, Patrick, live in Meyerland. They love to golf, run, read, camp and hang with their dog, Biscuit.
Margarita has an incoming freshman, Emilio, and a rising senior, Carlo, who attends Bellaire High School. Margarita spent almost 25 years working as an international tax attorney in the US and in Europe. In the last 7 years she has co-founded two private specialty schools in Houston, Texas. She is currently the President of the Board of Directors of MADE Houston, a private school for students with learning differences. Margarita is fluent in French and Spanish. She and her husband, Michael, live in Bellaire.
Hospitality Chair- Andrea Simon
Andrea is a Houston native and a graduate of DeBakey HSHP, Hampton University (B.A.), and Texas Southern University (M.A.). Her area of specialty is Human Resources and currently she is a Special Project Manager for the Academy of Accelerated Learning Charter School District in Houston. Her spouse, Ramon Simon, is a graduate of DeBakey HSHP, Prairie View A&M University (B.S.), and University of Phoenix (M.B.A.). He is currently the Director of Regulatory Affairs for Covestro. Three Children: Symone- DeBakey HSHP 2020, Sydney – DeBakey HSHP Class of 2023, and Ryan- 9th Grade Energy Institute High School. Her outside interests include travel, technology, and music.
Membership Chair- Marie Flores
Marie Flores is the mother of a rising 10th grader at Energy and a future Energy student still working their way through the 1st grade. She holds an undergraduate degree in Humanities/Film from Arizona State University and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from South Texas College of Law. At the beginning of 2020, Marie left the corporate world to spend more time with her family, embraced her former creative roots and began working as a Freelance Writer, Editor, and Publishing Consultant. These days she splits her time between creating editorial content for her clients and assisting other writers with bringing their works to market. Fan of the animated MTV character Daria, she is a pet lover, book hoarder, and fierce defender of the Oxford comma.
Social Media Chair- Chris Carville
Both of Chris's children will be at EIHS next year as a Senior and a Freshman, and he has been active in the EIHS PTO as a member and volunteer. Chris works in Engineering and Business Development with Emerson’s Energy and Transportation Solutions division. He resides in the Meyerland area and is often seen riding his bicycle along many of Houston’s bike trails.
Spirit Store Chair- Rachel Carleton
Introverted mom to a rising junior (class of ‘25). When I’m not working, I enjoy cooking, gardening and embarrassing my children. I love yoga and visiting my older daughter who is completing her freshman year at the University of Rochester.
Volunteers Chair- Nicole Weaver
Nicole is the mom of Will, a junior at Energy, and Nathan, an 8th grader at Frank Black Middle School. She has served on the executive boards of their PTOs/PTAs for the last 11 years at Energy, FBMS, and Harvard Elementary as well as on the Band and Cheer Booster boards at FBMS. She has enjoyed volunteering in their school stores, libraries, and gardens and as their room mom each year. Her past professional experience includes technical recruiting and business management in the area of historic preservation. She and her husband, Ben, are graduates of the University of St. Thomas (BBA & MBA). Her family has an antique shop in the Heights and she enjoys travel, especially exploring the National Parks.
